Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF)

What we offer Our Goal Services U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ)Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF)Team Technology has supported ATF for nearly 10 years on various projects: TTI provides the Information Services Division (ISD), of the ATF technical expertise and hardware and software necessary to provide system development and support for a nationwide network of users. TTI provides system support services in order to deliver a complete turnkey solution that includes deployment of hardware and software applications at designated IM sites. System implementation services encompass the acquisition of all necessary hardware/software, system configuration and testing, onsite installation, training and ongoing technical support.

TTI, an IBM “Federal Systems Integrator” (FSI), Partnered with IBM, was engaged on a pilot initiative to deliver Websphere – the data quality management software, provide installation support, conduct an assessment of the ATF systems, data profiling/cleansing and provide knowledge transfer and mentoring for the ATF staff on the use of IBM’s toolset (Information Analyzer, DataStage, Quality Stage, and Information Services Directory). TTI was engaged in performing a full data investigation of the agency data source, examine the data, and formulate a detailed data quality report and plan of corrective action. The project effort was divided into five sections, which outline the tasks and deliverables for the Data Quality Initiative:

  • Project Planning
  • Technical Architecture Review
  • Technical Installation and Configuration
  • Data Integrity Analysis
  • Mentored Development / Knowledge Transfer

As Phase 2 of the project, the task was to provide environment to build and deliver SOA-enabled services independent of the existing disparate databases and make data available for all processes. Data Migration efforts were directed towards establishing a Central Repository for Data as well as develop the process to integrate this data into the production environment through Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) applications – Websphere. Upon completion of the QualityStage cleansing effort, affected fields updated and duplicate records deleted in the central repository while DataStage used to transform and update fields and/or delete records

TTI is supporting the OCIO’s IT Services Office (ITS), a major component of its mandate being major component of this service is the delivery of stable network services delivered on an enterprise scale to the SFC facility. TTI’s services include telephonic access to Cisco engineers and technical resources, rapid issue resolution, device-by-device maintenance coverage, and other service options intended to maximize ITS’ network operational availability and efficiencies. TTI, an authorized Cisco certified provider /reseller of Cisco products and services offers SMARTnet services, a proprietary, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) service offering provided exclusively by Cisco. TTI supported the Web Management Working Group, a working group that is tasked with identifying standards, development strategies, and shared technical resources that can be implemented at the departmental level to maximize satisfaction with the site, efficiency of resource allocation, and ease of maintenance. TTI was tasked to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Development of the Web Usability Survey – Survey to include a collection of open ended and measured questions; used to collect information about the websites and web services offered in both internet and intranet sites for the DoT agencies; survey focused on the usability features of the sites and will capture data on how the sites are developed and managed.
  • Conducting the survey with participating DOT agencies (including FRA)
  • Summarizing the survey results in a report – recap responses to the survey questions; highlight the major common elements and areas of divergence. This report will be used to prepare recommendations by the OCIO for the need for departmental web management standards.

TTI conducted a set of focused interviews with a sample of Web site and Web content managers from across the different agencies under the DoT and summarize its findings under various headings. TTI’s web experts, during their study, referred to all available DoT documentation, guidelines and notifications to get first hand knowledge of department/ agency web standards, shared resources and levels of flexibility enjoyed by each agency within the DoT. To name a few of the documentation referred to by the study group: DOT Web Management Working Group Charter, Web Management Strategy (September 2007)

The results of the usability interviews are presented by interview guide topic and specific question; each organization’s response is presented separately, where appropriate. Key topics included in the report were: Web Site Overview and Responsibilities, Web Site Goals, Web Site Audience, Web Site Technology, Governance, Web Content Creation, Site Navigation, Section 508 Compliance, DOT-Wide Resources.

TTI is engaged in Disaster Recovery study to support the agency with an objective assessment of its installed capacity and usage so as to identify suitable energy alternatives to meet with exigencies. The study encompasses:

TTI supported the Web Management Working Group, a working group that is tasked with identifying standards, development strategies, and shared technical resources that can be implemented at the departmental level to maximize satisfaction with the site, efficiency of resource allocation, and ease of maintenance. TTI was tasked to accomplish the following tasks

  • Determine the current energy usage of the TRB Data Center areas
  • Provide recommendations and a plan for reliable, fault tolerant, and consistent (24 x 7) energy availability to those areas

TTI’s ongoing efforts on the project would culminate with the submission of a comprehensive report detailing the steps undertaken in carrying out the study, the assumptions and constraints if any and mention risk mitigation strategies

  • Information on current energy usage figures for the entire Data Center environment. This shall include but may not be limited to computers, appliances, environmental systems and other electrical devices associated with the above mentioned areas
  • Provide plan and recommendations for implementing a reliable, fault tolerant, and consistent (24 x 7) energy availability to the Data Center areas. TTI Team would include details of specific items (without reference to specific make and model) that would need to be procured and installed in order to affect the complete plan.
  • Provide estimated costs for the various components needed to affect the plan, broken down by items to facilitate budgeting and procurement of the items such that the agency may potentially implement the plan in stages depending on costs.
